Ms. Martinez is currently a leadership volunteering participant at the Mariposa-Nabi Community Garden, based in Los Angeles. Her role is communications and grant-seeking to better support the needs of the garden and community. In addition, Ms. Martinez works in collaboration with community members to translate information about compost into Korean and Spanish.

Additionally, Ms. Martinez has organized small beach clean-ups in the greater Los Angeles area over the past two years, hoping to create awareness of the amount of ocean debris and danger inflicted on marine life due to plastic pollution by collecting data.

In addition, Ms. Martinez collects data on the types of trash that pollutes the coastal areas. In the summer of 2019, she compared five beaches along the coast to see which beach has the highest amount of waste in the area. After her research study was completed, her goal was to monitor the beach status and often organize clean-ups to leave places better than she found them.
